Our story
The neighborhood that used to be water.
La Matuna is the one piece of the historic center that never became a postcard: it was water. A channel that separated two walled quarters. In the early twentieth century they knocked down that stretch of the city wall, filled the channel with the rubble, and built the neighborhood on top. That's why there are no colonial balconies here — there are banks, street vendors and people on their way to work. The real Cartagena, the one that keeps going after the photo.
And inside, the noise switches off. Wooden hallways lit by six o'clock light, bathrooms dressed in handmade terracotta zellige, poured-concrete sinks, and a flash of coral where you least expect it. Upstairs, a terrace with a private pool looks out over the rooftops of the old city. Step out the door and you're in the city. Step in and you're on vacation.
